Our whole life is an Education – and we all are ‘Ever-Learning’. Every moment of life, everywhere, under any circumstances something is being added to the stock of our previous attainments. But do we all thing the same way? Do we all understand the importance of ‘Learning’? After reading this article, you may change your perspective, and understand the importance of adopting a mindset of Lifelong Learning.
You will be more interesting and charismatic. Reading about different topics, increases your ability to connect easily with any personality you come across. You would interest the other person and leave your impact on them as more sensible, smart and sophisticated human. These qualities makes you stand out of the crowd, which I guess is what we all aspire to be, in this competitive corporate world.
You will be a better Leader. Being able to connect with others doesn’t just make you more interesting. It also makes you much more influential. The greater your knowledge base, the better inventory of solutions you have, to tackle any difficult situation or to overcome your life challenges.
You’ll earn more. Looking at today’s competitive market, keeping you up-skilled has become really important. To earn more money, you need to become an autodidact. Being an autodidact not only makes you earn more money, however it can be a gateway to self0 employment and starting your own business. Countless business owners have been successful in the past, simply by teaching themselves what they needed to know and relentlessly tinkering.
You will be independent and handy. I have always admired one thing about my father, that he is always tinkering, and it seemed like, he knew everything about most of the cool stuff. How to garden, how to repair an electric machine, how to do woodwork in the house or how to use the color combinations. And this was the reason, why he had to call and pay an expert to do it for him.
Lifelong Learning keeps your brain healthy. Henry Ford, an American industrialist, founder of Ford Motor Company, once said,” Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.” Many psychologists have said, “Education seems to be elixir that can bring us a healthy body and mind throughout adulthood and even a longer life.”
You will feel more satisfied with life. As per my experiences, we all need three things to keep ourselves motivated or satisfied in life. They are freedom, knowledge and purpose. Becoming a Lifelong Learner fulfills all three of these psychological needs. When you are an autodidact you – not your parents, not your professor and not your boss- get to decide what you are going to learn about. You have the freedom to choose what to learn, and in other words, you become autonomous. As you learn new skills, you gain more knowledge and you enjoy the feeling of mastery. And you’ll find yourself with the renewed sense of purpose in life as you set goals for your self – education.
The satisfaction of Lifelong Learning doesn’t stop there. The more you know about the world, the deeper you can plunge into it, and the more levels of it you can experience. Whether travelling, conversing, reading books or watching a movie, your library of knowledge helps you make connections that you would never have otherwise perceived.
